Vein Specialist in Alpena MI
Our Patients from Alpena
If you’re dealing with varicose veins, spider veins, or other venous diseases, you want the pain to go away or you’re simply tired of seeing those bulging veins on your legs or the networks of purple spider veins. In these cases, it’s worth driving a couple hours west from Alpena for the expertise of Dr. Heeringa and Northern Michigan Vein Specialists.
Dr. Heeringa has extensive experience and is passionate about vein care. It’s an area of medicine where most doctors have little training or experience, and they end up misdiagnosing various venous conditions. That’s not the case at Northern Michigan Vein Specialists. Dr. Heeringa is a vein specialist and treatment of venous problems is our sole focus.
That’s why we have patients come to our Traverse City and Cadillac locations from all across Northern Michigan, including many patients from Alpena. But don’t take our word for it; we encourage you to check out Dr. Heeringa’s testimonials on this site, and on the various other health review websites.
Then give us a call to set up a free consultation and jump on State Road 32 and head west to Northern Michigan Vein Specialists. It will take about two and a half hours, but your legs will certainly thank you for the drive!
Sclerotherapy — The injection of a sclerosant agent instantly causes spider veins and small varicose veins to close off. The body then scavenges and removes the unused vein removing these unsightly purple and blue clusters from your legs.
Radiofrequency Ablation/Endovenous Laser Therapy — For varicose or otherwise malfunctioning veins, we use radiofrequency energy or laser energy to deliver heat directly into the vein. The heat causes the vein walls to contract and close off. These minimally invasive procedures are very effective for sealing off targeted blood vessels.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy — Phlebectomy is a minimally invasive method for removing varicose veins. After anesthetizing the area locally, a small needle hole is made next to the targeted vein. Dr. Heeringa then inserts a tiny needle and grasps and removes the problematic vein.
Conservative Vein Therapies — These methods are usually our first treatment options, utilizing compression stockings, Unna boots, exercise regimens, and leg elevation.
Non-Thermal, Non-Tumescent Ablation — Dr. Heeringa is one of the first physicians in Northern Michigan to us ablation methods that don’t require heat. VenaSeal is one of these methods. A small catheter is inserted into the diseased vein, and a tiny amount of cyanoacrylate glue is then delivered into the vein, closing it off.
Hand and Facial Vein Treatment — No one likes spider and varicose veins showing up on the back of the hands or the face. Dr. Heeringa removes these with treatments such as VeinGogh. In VeinGogh, a brief burst of laser energy is delivered next to the spider vein. The heat damages the tiny blue or purple veins, causing them to close off and instantly disappear in most cases. For the backs of the hands, he uses other treatments, such as microphlebectomy, to remove the veins with minimal disruption.
Venous Stenting — When veins become obstructed pressure builds, leading to leg swelling, edema, heaviness, leg fatigue, varicose veins, and venous ulceration. Using ultrasound, Dr. Heeringa can help diagnose these conditions and will assist you in getting the appropriate treatment when indicated.
